My dearest Blooming Breastfeeding mom – this is what we call inserts.
Lots of breast pumps only come with one flange size that isn’t necessarily a good fit for you (YES your flange has a size!).
What happens if I have a breast pump flange that is too big?
Well, you might decrease your supply over time, as it doesn’t pull the nipple in properly, therefore, not extracting the milk from the breast optimally.
You never know, you might be the mommy with an oversized flange and only pump 17ml, BUT with the right size you might be pumping 70ml!
What happens if the flange is too small?
Your nipple might rub against the inside of your flange, causing pain and damage, this will also cause insufficient drainage of the milk.
What do I do with the inserts then?
Inserts are inserted into your flange according to your size, therefore, there is no need to buy a new flange! You save money, the possibility of losing hope; due to a perceived notion of a low supply AND you can pump with comfort!
Don’t give up, first get help to ensure that your flange fits your fabulously!
